Forty-two

Life, when it came to be,
Bore one, then two, then three
Elemental things.

And thus the three began:
Heaven, earth, and humanity
To balance happenings,
Cool night, warm day,
For the living, for the dead.

Though the common person may not wish
To admit
That we are all of common earth,
Great leaders often state
How humbly they are leading,
Because in true succession
High and low correlate.

It is an ancient thought
That a person who over-reaches and tries to
Force the world to be as they desire
Shall achieve nothing more than
Their own demise;
And thus my own heart teaches.
